Two soldiers were killed and another was injured in an attack by outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the southeastern Hakkari province, security sources said on June 20.
In a statement, the provincial governor’s office said the militants carried out a rocket attack at around 10:30 a.m. local time (07:30 GMT) on a military convoy passing from a military command in the Çukurca district, bordering northern Iraq.
The statement said two soldiers were killed and one more soldier was injured in the attack.
An air-supported operation has been launched to capture the terrorists in the region.
On June 19, at least three soldiers were killed and five others were wounded in separate bomb attacks launched by PKK militants in the country’s southeast.
Two soldiers were killed in the Şırnak province by improvised explosive devices planted by PKK militants. Three soldiers were also wounded in the attack.
Also on June 19, one soldier was killed and two others were injured in the southeastern province of Siirt when PKK militants detonated a previously planted bomb on a road by remote control.
The Turkish army said on June 19 that it “neutralized” 36 PKK militants in anti-terror operations in both Turkey and northern Iraq.
Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply that the militants in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.
