Factory explosion in Türkiye kills 12 people
BALIKESIR
Twelve people died and three others suffered injuries in a devastating explosion at an explosives factory in western Türkiye on Tuesday, local authorities reported.
The incident occurred in Karesi, a district in the province of Balıkesir. The factory, which opened its doors in 2014, specialized in manufacturing munitions for light weapons, according to local media sources.
Balıkesir Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu addressed the tragedy, ruling out sabotage as the cause of the explosion. "Initial investigations suggest this was a tragic accident," Ustaoğlu told reporters at the scene.
Emergency services rushed to the site. The condition of the three injured individuals remains unclear at this time.
