Turkish medics battle to treat Aleppo’s injured residents

Turkish hospitals have treated over 300 civilians from Aleppo, the Turkish Prime Ministry said on Dec. 30.        

A total of 303 injured civilians have been brought to Turkey for medical treatment following an evacuation of civilians from eastern Aleppo to opposition-held Idlib. Most of the injured were treated in hospitals in the southern province of Hatay, while a third of the civilians were transferred to hospitals in different provinces in Turkey, according to the ministry’s press office. 

However, 41 people have lost their lives in hospitals despite efforts, while 43 have been discharged.        

Some 132 of the injured are reportedly minors.        

Earlier this month, Syrian opposition forces and Bashar al Assad’s regime reached a cease-fire deal, brokered by Turkey and Russia, in order to evacuate civilians from eastern Aleppo to safe areas in Idlib.

Since then, some 44,000 people have been evacuated from the area, according to Turkish authorities.
