Turkey to celebrate feast of sacrifice starting from Oct 4

Muslims across the world, including in Turkey, will celebrate the Eid al-Adha, the feast of sacrifice, on Oct. 4.

The four day celebration will begin on Oct. 4 in Turkey, similar to most Muslims countries across the world.

During the Feast of Sacrifice, thousands of Turks traditionally travel to spend time with their families in their home regions. The authorities have warned of the risk of increased traffic accidents across the country due to the mass traveling.

Saudi Arabia has announced that the first day of Eid will fall on Saturday, Oct. 4. Most Arab and Islamic countries usually follow the lead of Saudi Arabia, which is home to the Muslim holy cities of Mecca and Medina, as Eid al-Adha is associated with rituals of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

However, Mauritania will celebrate the first day of the Eid al-Adha on Oct. 5, as announced by the country’s moon-sighting panel. The government-run Central Moon Sighting Committee said in a statement that Oct. 5 would be the tenth day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah, which marks the first day of Eid al-Adha.

According to the committee, the new moon of the lunar month was sighted on Thursday.
