Turkey to be guest at art fair in Spain

Turkey will be the guest country of the international art fair ARCOmadrid, held in the Spanish capital, in 2013. The fair will take place in February 2013, and this will be Turkey’s first time as the fair’s guest country. The fair will especially highlight Istanbul.

ARCO is generally acknowledged to be one of the most important art fairs in the world, but many fewer art galleries and artists participated in this year’s fair, compared to years past. ARCOmadrid’s guest country this year was the Netherlands.

Spanish art critics have commented on Turkey as the chosen guest country for next year’s fair, saying “Turkish contemporary art is now known in Spain.”
