Over 100 businesspeople, former politicians detained in FETÖ probe

A total of 111 people, including businesspeople and former politicians, were detained on Aug. 10 in the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri as part of an investigation into the Gülen movement, which has been blamed for the failed coup attempt of July 15.Some 400 counter-terrorism and organized crimes police conducted an operation against 120 businesspeople and former politicians who are accused of being a member of Fethullahist Terror Organization/Parallel State Structure (FETÖ/PYD) as well as providing financial support to the organization.
Those who were subjected to a warrant for their detention included former Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy Ahmet Öksüzkaya; former AKP provincial head Ömer Deniz; the Kayseri Chamber of Trade’s head and Britain’s honorary council in Kayseri, Mahmut Hiçyılmaz; Kayseri Chamber of Industry speaker Nurettin Okadan and former Fatih University Rector Şerif Ali Tekalan.
However, nine of the suspects, including Öksüzkaya and Tekalan, were determined to be abroad. Accordingly, police conducted searches and detained the 111 other suspects.
During the searches, computers and documents found at the addresses were also seized.
