Iran, star of Davos while Turkey absent

My traditional Davos days have started. As is the case each year I will have anti-Davos coverage for you.

First observation: according to several people I talked to, the agenda of Davos is weak compared to previous years; in fact, quiet boring.

Yet, this is my list of the “in” and the “most” in Davos

The most popular

No doubt, Matt Damon. He will be awarded this year’s Chrystal award. We might get a chance to chat. The only problem: the subject of his speech is “healthy water to all.” The moment these Hollywood guys start societal activities, they become too boring like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

The most difficult choice

Two very important women talk at the same time in different rooms. In one place, there is Goldie Hawn: joyful, a woman with lots of laughter. In the other, Elif Şafak: beautiful, successful, Turkish, a friend…Which one should you choose?

God helped me. I am obsessed with everything spiritual these days. To my luck, Goldie Hawn’s subject is “Hype.”

That suits me. Yet, the moment I get deeper, I go berserk. She will be talking about meditation. I’ve had enough lately of all those women around me talking about meditation. Elif’s subject is good “In the constructive science…”

Elif talks in four other panels. So I chose Hawn’s meditation workshop. I’ll follow Şafak’s speech on the panel “art and identity.”

The most fun

This is a workshop: “From dream to 3D reality.”

We will do a workshop to realize our dreams with 3D printers.

The most Soviet style

Definitely the panel on “Eurasia the future frontier.”

Participants are Ilham Aliyev, the president of Azerbaijan; Irakli Garibashvili, the president of Georgia and Nursultan Nazarbayev, the president of Kazakhstan. You might ask why is there no Russian in this picture. Andrey I. Kostin, the CED of Russia’s VTB bank.

The most suitable for Turkey

It is definitely “Designing corruption out of a system.”

Isn’t important that Davos talks about this subject? The panelists:

Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, President of Mongolia. But this is so irrelevant. He should not get offended, but when the subject is corruption, I trust no one to the East of Istanbul.

Thank God; one of the other three panelists is a German and the other two are American, the countries where people quit their post for 10 liras worth of undeserved money.

The most meaninful one

Definitely “Celebrating the spirit of Davos.”

Who is celebrating it? Shimon Peres, the President of Israel. One cannot refrain from asking. Where is the real “one minute” hero that gave Davos its true spirit? But then that would have been commemorating it rather than celebrating it.

The star of Davos

This year’s star in Davos is no doubt Hassan Rouhani, the president of Iran.

Turkey was absent in Davos, while Iran was highly present.

As I was writing this article, everybody was anxiously looking forward to his speech.
