Beşiktaş will try to continue its Ziraat Turkish Cup defense when it plays at Boluspor today.

The Black Eagles, who have won last year’s title with a penalty shootout victory over Istanbul BB, will take on second-tier Boluspor in a midday kick-off on the round-of-16 of the domestic cup. Last year’s runner-up Istanbul BB will take on Kayserispor, the 2008 winner, in the only other game today.

Fourteen-time winner Galatasaray fell short in its bid to win its first trophy since 2005 when it lost 1-0 to Sivasspor on March 20.

A sole goal by midfielder Erman Kılıç was enough to win the game for Sivasspor, who advanced to the quarterfinals.

Galatasaray, the runaway leader in the Spor Toto Super League, was high after salvaging a crucial 2-2 draw against Fenerbahçe last weekend. The draw over its archrival helped Galatasaray hold on to its nine-point lead with only three matches left in the regular season. The Lions played without key men Johan Elmander and Felipe Melo.
