11 al-Nusra suspects detained in Turkey’s south

Turkish anti-terror police officers in the southern province of Adana have detained a total of 11 suspected al-Nusra militants after conducting simultaneous operations across the city center to apprehend some 13 suspects. 

The suspects are believed to be in communication with al-Nusra militants in Syria and other Turkish towns, while an announcement issued by the Adana police department suggested the militants were involved in recruiting others to join the frontlines in Syria. 

According to reports, the suspects were also involved in fundraising activities for the terror group and organized lessons, talks and meetings about the activities of the organization. 

The police department said multiple addresses were raided early on April 14 in order to detain some 13 suspects, 11 of whom were apprehended. 

The suspects were sent to the courthouse after undergoing medical examinations. 

Operating in mostly in Syria, Jabhat al-Nusra has been designated a terrorist organization by Turkey since 2014.

Turkey has recently stepped up measures against militants linked to al-Nusra and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), whose members have established cells in a number of cities across the country.
