The Turkish unit of the Russia-based search engine Yandex is celebrating its first year in the local market, having reached a 1 percent share in the Turkish market, the chairman of the company, Mehmet Ali Yalçındağ, said yesterday.“One percent may not mean much to you, but it means a lot for us,” Yalçındağ said.
“The first six months were spent understanding and researching the market, integrating our products and, localizing them,” the chairman said, adding that the fact the company had therefore managed to achieve a 1 percent share of the market after just 12 months was very satisfactory.
Yandex understands Turkish and thinks in Turkish, Yalçındağ also said, adding that it sought to meet the expectations and needs of users in Turkey.
“Our goal is to achieve a share of 30-35 percent in the next five years [in Turkey],” he said.
