World Press Photos to go on view in Istanbul

Spanish Samuel Aranda’s photo has been chosen as the year’s best press photo.
The world’s best press photos will go on display in Istanbul this month in an annual event displaying the best photographs from journalists around the world.The World Press Photo 2012 exhibition will run from Sept. 11 until the end of the month at the Forum Istanbul mall in Bayrampaşa.
Spain’s Samuel Aranda, a photo of whose was chosen as the year’s best press photo, is set to attend this year’s exhibition.
Aranda’s winning photo portrays a woman holding her wounded son in her arms inside a mosque that was being used as a field hospital by protesters demonstrating against the rule of Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh during clashes in Sanaa on Oct. 15, 2011. Aranda was working in Yemen on assignment for The New York Times when he took the photo.
The winners were selected from over 100,000 images submitted to the contest. A group of 19 photographers gathered in Amsterdam from Jan. 28 to Feb. 9 to select the winners.
