Women across Turkey to march on March 8 against gender inequality
ISTANBUL
Women across Turkey are set to take to the streets to mark International Women’s Day on March 8.
The women’s rights group Istanbul Feminist Collective has called on women to march on the long İstiklal Avenue, near Taksim Square, in Istanbul to protest against “patriarchy, male violence, sexism, heterosexism, capitalism, militarism, imperialism and war.” The group has been marching every year on March 8 since 2003, and this year will be no different.
The march is scheduled to kick off at 19:30 on İstiklal Avenue.
Additionally, the Confederation of Public Employees’ Trade Unions (KESK) is organizing various marches in other cities. The union has announced the planned times and places scheduled for the marches on its website and said it would also hold press meetings ahead of some of the marches.
