Wife of world’s tallest man trapped in Syria

Sultan Kösen, who entered the Guinness Book of World Records for being the world’s tallest man, has asked for the authorities’ help to ensure the safe return from Syria of his newly-wed wife Merve.

Merve Kösen went visit the town of Qamishli to attend the funeral of her uncle, just across the border, a few days ago, but she has been unable to return as the border gate in the town of Nusaybin has been closed for security reasons.

Sultan Kösen, who is from the southeastern Turkish province of Mardin, has pleaded with Mardin Governor Mustafa Taşkesen for help, reportedly telling the governor that if his wife is not able to return, he will go to Syria himself, saying “he cannot live without her.”

Officials said Merve Kösen had not asked for the necessary permissions before leaving Turkey for Syria.

Sultan and Merve Kösen tied the knot last October.
