DİYARBAKIR - Anadolu Agency
One village guard was killed and another injured in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır on July 13 in a clash with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
A statement by the provincial governor’s office said that initially two village guards were wounded in a clash with the PKK early July 13 in Diyarbakır’s Silvan district.
But one of the village guards succumbed to his wounds on the way to the hospital.
On a related note, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement on July 12 that five PKK militants surrendered to security forces in the southeastern provinces of Mardin and Şırnak.
Four militants, who had fled from areas where PKK are present in northern Iraq, turned themselves in to security forces on July 11 in the Silopi district of Şırnak, the statement said.
Separately, one militant, who had fled from areas harboring People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Syria, surrendered to security forces on the same day in Mardin’s Kızıltepe district.
