VIDEO: Moment Turkish police shot militant attacking US Consulate in Istanbul
A Turkish police officer has been captured in footage while taking down a female militant after she opened fire on the U.S. consulate building in Istanbul with another assailant.
Doğan News Agency released the footage on Aug. 10, hours after the assailant was detained after being wounded by police.
In the footage, the policeman warns the militant who escaped into an apartment building near the consulate, before firing at her legs when she refused to raise her hands. Police continued searchs to detain the other assailant, a male militant.
The outlawed far-leftist Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) claimed responsibility for the attack with an online statement on Aug. 10. The group also claimed responsibility for a deadly suicide bombing at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara in 2013.
