Canada’s newly-elected prime minister, Justin Trudeau, defended a journalist criticizing him during an event in Montreal before the country’s Oct. 19 federal elections, according to a recently revealed video. The Liberal Party leader harshly reacted to supporters when they jeered a journalist’s question about Dan Gagnier, the former co-chair of the party’s national campaign who resigned over revelations that he advised energy company TransCanada Corp. on lobbying the government.
“We respect journalists in this country; they ask tough questions, and they are supposed to,” said Trudeau.
Trudeau had first defended Gagnier but later asked for his resignation.
