Vehicles up 6.5 percent in April

The number of registered motor vehicles in Turkey increased 6.5 percent in April when compared to March 2012.Turkey’s Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced yesterday that 87,542 motor vehicles were newly registered for the month of April 2012.
Among all the vehicles, cars were in first place with 48.9 percent (42,831 total cars) followed by small trucks at 18.2 percent (15,889 total trucks), motorcycles at 17.8 percent (15,572 total motorcycles) and tractors at 7.8 percent (6,794 tractors).
Small buses, buses, trucks and special purpose vehicles came in last place constituting 7.4 percent (6,456) of the registered motor vehicles in April, according to the TÜİK figures.
12.9 percent decrease from April 2011
On a year-over-year basis, however, the number of registered motor vehicles in April decreased 12.9 percent when compared to April 2011.
In the period between January and April, or the first quarter of 2012, 348,142 motor vehicles were registered across the country.
