US delegation in Turkey for Syria mission

The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development has sent a delegation of senior U.S. officials to Turkey, which will then also travel on to Jordan.

The delegation will meet with representatives from international humanitarian and non-governmental organizations to discuss assistance for Syrian refugees, and have talks with Turkish government officials and members of the Syrian Opposition Coalition.

During their visit from Jan. 23 to Jan. 31, the delegation, including Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, Anne C. Richard; U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistant Administrator for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance, Nancy Lindborg; and Ambassador Robert Ford, will also visit a Syrian refugee camp.

“In Jordan, the delegation will visit programs that support Syrian refugees living in local communities. They will also meet with representatives from the Government of Jordan and the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees,” a statement released from the U.S. Department of State said late Jan. 22.
