University’s archive to gather Anatolian music
TRABZON - Anatolia News Agency
Work has begun to archive the musical culture of Anatolia in a national database.Over the course of nine years, Professor Özlem Doğuş Varlı of the Karadeniz Technical University has prepared an English book on music in Turkey. Through her work she encountered many different music records.
“With the invitation of Oxford University, we have examined the Turkish music archive. There are such rare voice records there that you can only listen to them. Copying or buying them is too expensive. This is why we have been forming a music archive for the conservatory department of our university.”
Varlı said the project had received support from Germany, France, Hungary and Britain. “They send us letters saying that they want to support our project. We want the Culture and
Tourism Ministry to get involved in this project.
