Authorities in Romania say they have detained two Turks on charges they illegally transported 26 Syrian citizens by sea to Romania.

Authorities said they intercepted two boats carrying the Syrians and the Turks near the Black Sea port of Constanta on Saturday. The Syrians asked for political asylum and were sent to refugee center in Galati, a port on the River Danube in eastern Romania while their requests are being processed

The Romanian Coast Guard said Monday the two Turks were detained for 29 days pending an investigation into charges that they entered the country illegally and for also helping the Syrians to do the same.
