Two police officers were injured in an ambush by suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the southeastern province of Batman yesterday night.
Assailants opened fire on a patrolling police vehicle carrying officers from special forces in the province's Gercüş district.
Policemen responded to the attack, resulting in a clash that lasted for about 10 minutes. The assailants then fled under the cover of darkness.
The injured officers were taken to Gercüş State Hospital for treatment. Reports said the officers were only lightly injured and were in fair medical condition.
An operation was initiated in the area to apprehend the fleeing assailants.
