Suruc Mayor Ethem Sahin, from pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, or DTP, earlier told the agency one person was killed and two others were injured in the clashes in the Suruc district of the Sanliurfa province.
Hundreds of demonstrators threw stones at police and soldiers prevented around 3,000 people from traveling to the village of imprisoned Ocalan, the leader of terror organization PKK.
Hundreds of police and soldiers, holding riot shields, took positions on hilltops and blocked a road near the town of Halfeti, close to Ocalan’s village of Omerli.
Police and military authorities have urged calm through loudspeakers and police have used water canons and fired tear gas canisters to disperse the crowds.
Ocalan is currently serving life sentence in a prison in Turkey.
