Turkish swimmer short of finals berth

Turkish swimmer Arda Gürdal won his heat, but still missed out on the men’s 100-meter freestyle semifinals yesterday.

The 22-year-old was the fastest of seven swimmers in his heat, but his recorded time of 49.71 seconds was not enough to put him among the fastest 16 after all eight heats of the competition were completed.

U.S. swimmer Nathan Adrian was the fastest semifinalists with 48.19 seconds, while New Zealander Shaune Fraser had the lowest qualifying time of the semifinalists with 48.99 seconds.

The 100-meter freestyle final will be held tonight at 10:20 p.m.
