Turkish ref to officiate matches at Euro 2012

Çakır will be the only representative of Turkey in Euro 2012 since the national team failed to qualify for the tournament.
Turkish Football Federation announced Cüneyt Çakır has been selected by UEFA to officiate Euro 2012, becoming the first Turkish referee in 15 years to be chosen for a tournament of this caliber.Çakır, Turkey’s top referee, is among the 12 officials picked from all over Europe to participate in the top continental tournament, which will be held in Ukraine and Poland next summer.
Çakır has previously officiated games in FIFA Under-20 World Cup, UEFA U-21 European Championship along with top club competitions, Champions League and Europa League.
The 35-year-old will become the first Turkish referee to take part in the championship after Ahmet Çakar’s assignment at the Euro 1996.
