Turkish professor becomes head of World Academy Neurological Surgery

ISTANBUL

Professor Necmettin Pamir has been elected as the head of the World Academy Neurological Surgery (WANS), becoming the first Turkish professor to gain the title. 

“This is a great honor for me,” said Pamir, Acıbadem University’s founding rector and the department head of brain and nerve surgery, adding that he was “happy and proud” to be elected in the meeting held in Athens.
Noting that the key to success was hard work, Pamir said that “success comes by itself after that.”

“There is nothing outside of working hard. Success comes by itself,” he said, while advising young people to “work hard, be curious, think and contribute to universal knowledge.”

Pamir is among the founders of WANS and was previously the organization’s general secretary. He recently also received a gold medal from the Academia Eurasiana Neurochirurgica due to his contributions to the area of neurosurgery.

The world’s top brain and nerve surgeons are members of WANS, which provides training globally and determines policies regarding the medical area.

The academy was established as an honor society to promote cooperation and camaraderie among the world leaders in neurosurgery, exchange scientific knowledge and recognize major contributors to the field.

All members of the academy are elected based on the merit of their scientific contributions, innovations, educational effort and role in advancing neurosurgery in their country and around the world.
