Turkish professor at Harvard receives prominent award

Harvard Professor Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil was given the annual Vehbi Koç Award last night in recognition for his contributions to the field of medicine.Hotamışlıgil is currently employed by Harvard University, both as a teacher and as a leading name in the fields of genetics and complex diseases, as well as the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1994, and his M.D. from Ankara University in 1986.
His major research interests include biochemical and genetic studies and regulatory pathways that control glucose and lipid metabolism.
The award, presented to leading figures in the fields of health, education and culture, aims to “award services that contribute to the value of the society and that set examples,” according to the award’s official website.
