Turkish president welcomes foreign ambassadors

Turkish President Abdullah Gül welcomed the Fijian and Guatemalan ambassadors today to the Çankaya Presidential Palace.Guatemala’s ambassador to Turkey, Lars Pira, and Fiji’s envoy, Robin Nair, delivered a letter of confidence to the president.
After his ambassador handed the letter, the head clerk of the Fijian embassy, Emosi Rakai, made a traditional gesture by bending down on his knees before the president and clapping his hands.
The gesture, called the “Vakacobocobo,” is a gesture to show somebody’s respect for a head of state.
Gül posed for cameras with the ambassadors afterwards.
