Turkish police train 200 Syrian officers in Syria’s Azaz

Turkish police have trained 200 Syrian policemen to ensure security in the northern Syrian city of Azaz, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on April 26, citing a local police official. 

A graduation ceremony for the newly-trained policemen was held in the Azaz district of northern Aleppo that saw the attendance of Turkish police officials.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Azaz Police Commissioner Ahmet Zeydan said the newly-graduated police personnel would provide security in rural areas of northern Syrian region liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the Turkish-led Operation Euphrates Shield in early 2017.

“Our policemen will work to protect our people who have been persecuted due to the alliance of the cruel [Bashar al-] Assad regime, ISIL and the [outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party] PKK,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Azaz police department also published a circular for new police recruitments.

After taking the Azaz-Jarablus area in northern Syria from ISIL, Turkey started training police in the region late 2017. It has so far trained thousands of Syrian policemen.
