Turkish PM meets with world diplomats

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held several meetings with diplomats attending the Group of Friends of the Syrian People gathering in Istanbul.

Erdoğan met with Ayad Allawi, head of the al-Iraqiya Party yesterday on the sidelines of the group. Their meeting at Istanbul’s Dolmabahçe Palace was closed to the news media and asted about 30 minutes.

Erdoğan also met with Libyan Foreign Minister Ashour Bin Khayal yesterday for 30 minutes, and received Qatari Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem al-Thani.

Erdoğan also met with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met yesterday in Istanbul ahead of the Syria meeting. Diplomatic sources said Davutoğlu and Clinton both stressed that the Syrian regime must halt at once its deadly attacks on opposition groups in the country. Sources said the two top diplomats also discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan, the ongoing Cyprus settlement talks, the Caucasus and the political situation in Iraq.
