Turkish opposition’s presidential candidate tops Twitter
ISTANBUL
Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, the former head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), who has been nominated as the joint presidential candidate of Turkey’s two major opposition parties, quickly topped Twitter’s Worldwide Trending Topics list on June 16.Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu officially announced in the afternoon that they would nominate the senior diplomat as their joint candidate with the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
In just one hour, İhsanoğlu’s name became the most popular global trending topic on Twitter, with over 18,000 tweets sent following his nomination.
