Turkish jets ‘neutralize’ 38 PKK militants in northern Iraq
ANKARA/HAKKARİ – Anadolu Agency
Turkish jets “neutralized” 38 militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, security sources said on March 20.
The Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply that the militants in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.
The militants, who are thought to have been planning an attack, were “neutralized” as part of air operations targeting PKK camps ongoing since March 10, said sources who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
At least 15 caves and 30 shelters used by militants were also destroyed, the sources added.
Earlier, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement that 12 PKK militants were killed in the Hakurk region of northern Iraq on March 20.
