Turkish firm confirms seizure by pirates off Gabon coast

The Turkish company Genel Denizcilik has confirmed in a statement July 17 that one of its tankers was seized off the coast of Port-Gentil in Gabon.It also said that the MV Cotton, flying the Maltese flag, had a crew of 24, all of whom were Indian. The statement also added that the company was in touch with the crew’s families as well as the local officials.
A Turkish Foreign Ministry official contacted by AFP confirmed the incident, which happened late on Sunday.
"The owners of the MV Cotton lost contact with the tanker late on Sunday," said the official, who wished to remain anonymous, on July 15.
