Turkey’s book retail sector volume has reached 2.5 billion Turkish Liras as book consumption per capita, which is related to income per capita, in Turkey is close to the level in BRIC countries, according to a sector professional.Online book sales account for only 3 percent of the total book sales in Turkey, while the numbers show a 35-40 percent increase every year in total, said Mehmet İlhan, the General Manager of EBİ, which owned the online book retailers Idefix and Prefix before music and book store D&R, Doğan Holding’s subsidiary, acquired them for 11.5 million liras two weeks ago.
İlhan also said that piracy caused a loss of around 400 million liras to the book sector every year.
