Turkic epic set to become film series

The most famous among the epic stories of the Oghuz Turks, the Dada Gorgut Epic will become a film series thanks to a project initiated by the Azerbaijani President Ilham liyev. Aliyev signed a legal decision for the film and ordered the Cultural and Financial ministries to work on the issue.

Stating that the Dada Gorgut Epic had a significant place in Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage, Aliyev said the epic had a significant role in the formation of their national identity. For the film, a budget of $1,28 million will be allocated by the Azerbaijani Culture Ministry.

The Dada Gorgut epic stories carry morals and values significant to the social lifestyle of the
nomadic Turks and their pre-Islamic beliefs. The epic’s mythic narrative is part of the cultural heritage of Turkic states, including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
