Turkey’s Olympic torchbearers unveiled

Actress Meltem Cumbul and rock singer Harun Tekin will be among the twelve names to represent Turkey as torchbearers in the Olympic Torch Relay next month.

The Turkish National Olympic Committee (TMOK) chairman Uğur Erdener announced the 12 torchbearers that will participate in the Torch Relay in England yesterday.

Apart from Cumbul and Tekin, journalists Cengiz Semercioğlu and Şelale Kadak, Turkish swimmer Hasan Emre Muşluoğlu, Olympic athlete Kelime Aydın Çetinkaya, and prominent names from civil society “who made a difference,” were selected.

“Maybe you have seen most of us for the first time but I hope it will create awareness and that relay of 300 meters will work for our cause,” Deniz Yılmaz Atakay, a torchbearer and the coordinator of the PKU Family Foundation, said.
