Turkey’s Changemakers: Man who follows his dreams
Sabancı Foundation Turkey’s Changemakers Program continues in its 5th season to share the unique stories of extraordinary people who contribute to the social development. The 11th Changemaker of the 5th season is “Umut Koşan”.
Umut Koşan was born in Ankara in 1981. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy due to the cord entanglement at birthduring labor. Despite the difficulties he had been through, Kosan graduated from the Communication Faculty of Anatolian University and worked as a journalist for 18 years in famous leading media organizations such as Birgun, Aksam and Milliyet. On November, 2011 he decided to end his career as a journalist and started to work in the Media and Public Relations Department of State Theatres. While Koşan was serving as the Media Advisor in Sivas State Theaters, his project was approved, and he was assigned as the Coordinator of Regional Media Department of State Theaters.
Koşan, who established “People with Disabilities and Their Families Studies”, combined his own experiences with the experts’ knowledge and prepared a training course to improve the lives of people with disabilities and their families.
Umut Koşan, who believes that personal experiences are the best guide, shares his last project “People with Disabilities and Their Families Studies” training course with people with disabilities and their families in a certificate program collaborated in collaboration with the academics of Sivas University.
