Turkey world’s leading producer of many fruits

Turkey ranks first in the world for production of many agricultural products, according to figures from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.The country is first place worldwide for production of hazelnuts, apricots, figs, cherries, quinces and poppy seed, FAO figures said. Turkey is also second in the world for production of watermelons, yellow melons, strawberries, leeks and honey, and ranks third for production of lentils, apples, cucumbers, green peppers, green beans, chestnuts, pistachios and sheep’s milk.
Turkey was included in the top ten in the world for 55 agricultural products, Şemsi Bayraktar, chairman of the Union of Turkish Agricultural Chambers, told Anatolia news agency, adding that the country plays a significant role in the world’s agricultural trade.
