Turkey has summoned the top U.S. diplomat in order to protest Washington's latest statement that refused to call the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union (PYD) a "terrorist" organization.U.S. Ambassador John Bass has been summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Turkish diplomatic sources told the Hürriyet Daily News on Feb. 9. "Turkey's unease over the U.S. stance concerning the definition of the PYD and the YPG [the PYD's military wing, the People's Defense Units] has been clearly conveyed to the U.S. ambassador," the diplomatic source, speaking under customary condition of anonymity, said.
Bass was at the Foreign Ministry headquarters earlier on Feb. 9 and Ankara's unease and concerns were voiced by a deputy undersecretary of the ministry, the sources said.
