Turkey rakes in cash by exporting horse sperm

Turkey is exporting high quality horse sperm that has been frozen at a laboratory established in the northwestern province of Bursa.The first and only laboratory founded in the city, sells the frozen stud horses’ sperms to domestic and foreign horse breeders in return for a price ranging between 1,000 and 10,000 Turkish Liras.
Last year, the Horse Sperm Laboratory sold three studs’ sperms for $75,000 to a breeder in Morocco. The aim behind the foundation of the laboratory was to extend the period for benefiting from the sperm of local champion horses, said Nihat Özal, an employee of the Horse Sperm Laboratory.
The sperm samples are frozen down to minus 196 degrees.
