Turkey opens polling stations in Malta, Serbia, Moldova in first

Turkish nationals living in Malta, Serbia, and Moldova will be able to vote in an election in Turkey for the first time ever in the upcoming June 24 snap election, bringing the number of countries where Turkish expats can go to polls up to 60, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on May 10.

Turkish nationals abroad will be able to cast their votes at the country’s foreign missions from June 7 to 19, while voters will also be able to vote at customs gates between June 7 and 24.

A total of 3,160 ballot boxes will reportedly be set up in 123 foreign missions for the elections.

The presidential and parliamentary elections will be taking place a year-and-a-half ahead of schedule following a call from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), an ally of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
