Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç said it was currently out of the question that Turkey would host Hamas political bureau leader Khaled Mashaal.Arınç talked to journalists after a meeting of the Cabinet yesterday.
Answering a question on reports that Hamas would open an office in Turkey, Arınç said, "Hamas is an organization that has been recognized by Turkey. It participated in elections in Palestine and as a result of these
elections, a government formed by Hamas is serving there."
Mashaal's residency in Turkey was out of the question "right now," Arınç said and added that reports which claimed that the Turkish government had given millions of dollars to the Hamas leader was untrue.
"Turkey believes that unity in Palestine would be to the interests of Palestinian people," Arınç said.
