Turk opera artist wins in Spain

Turkish opera artist Orhan Yıldız, 33, has won second prize at the 49th International FranciscoVinas Singing Competition in Barcelona, Spain.
The Jan. 22 competition, organized at the Liceu Theater, did not award first prize to anyone in the category of male singers, but awarded second place to Turkish baritone Yıldız, and third place to Korean Chae Wook Lim.
Yıldız was given 5,000 euro in prize money in the competition.
The jury, made up of Joan Matabosch, Fiorenza Cossotto, Ana Esteban, Tobias Hasan, Jesus Iglesias, Peter Katona, Elizabeth Pezzino, Lanore Rosenberg, Ilias Tzempetonidis, Jose Van Dam and Eva Wagner-Pasquier, presented the first prize to Moldovan Olga Busuioc in the female singers category. Britain’s Jessica Muirhead and Russia’s Kristina Mkhaitaryan were the other two respective winners in the same category.
