Tunisian oud musician Smadj will appear live in concert at Borusan Music House on March 3 at 9:30 p.m. Smadj believes that in order to acquire insight into the oud and its music, which spans a vast repertoire from the most conventional to the most unusual and from the most archaic to the contemporary music, it is necessary to travel to the heart of the Mediterranean regions of North Africa and the Middle East. As Smadj puts it, the oud is hidden somewhere among the minutest details of jazz, in the charm of pop and in the energy of rock; it takes from each and every musical genre while maintaining its own spirit. Originally from Tunisia and residing in Istanbul, oud virtuoso, composer and arranger Smadj is a true world artist. In this performance he will bring together the Mediterranean’s best musicians and lead them on an expedition from West to East.
