Treut’s movie closes festival
On the final day of the Flying Broom International Women’s Film Festival, “The Virgin Machine” by Monika Treut, the director the “Attention! Monika Treut!” category was named after, will be shown today at 4:30 p.m. at the Goethe Institut.
Treut is known for her alternative views on gender roles, homosexuality and feminism, alongside her interest in documentaries.
The film revolves around the adventures of the protagonist, Dorothee, as she experiments with sexuality amid searching for love. She departs for San Francisco to find traces of her long lost mother who once lived there. Throughout her pursuit, she encounters all sorts of unconventional characters including a local porn king, a bohemian, a sex expert and a barker for a striptease show. All these people will allow her to go on an adventure that culminates in a crucial self-discovery.
