Traffic accidents in 9 months kill 2,172
According to numbers provided by the police, 2,222 of the traffic accidents in the first nine months of 2016 led to deaths and 137,554 involved injuries.

Of the accidents that resulted in deaths or injuries, 67,093 involved one vehicle, 64,925 involved two or more vehicles and 7,758 involved three or more vehicles. The main reasons behind the deadly accidents were driver, road or passenger faults.
Istanbul was the city with the most accidents involving deaths or injuries with 11,545, followed by Ankara with 9,009 accidents and İzmir with 8,333. Fifty-nine people were killed in traffic accidents in Istanbul, while 82 people were killed in Ankara and 87 were killed in İzmir, although those cities had fewer accidents than Istanbul.
Only 75 traffic accidents occurred in the first nine month of this year in the eastern province of Tunceli, where three people died and 148 others were injured.
The total number of fines issued for violation of traffic rules was 10.5 million, while the amount of fines totaled a whopping 2.5 billion Turkish Liras ($800 million).
A total of 75,304 people were fined for drunk-driving, while 663,382 vehicles were banned from traffic for various reasons.
