Trade in free zones up 22 pct

Trade in Turkey’s free zones increased 21.9 percent to $22.6 billion in 2011, according to official figures gathered by Anatolia news agency.The Aegean Free Zone made the highest trade at $5.7 billion, the figures provided by the Economy Ministry indicated.
The zone’s trade, which stood at $2.5 billion in 2010, rose by 129.6 percent to $5.7 billion in 2011.
The Istanbul Industrial & Commercial Zone ranked second at $3.6 billion in 2011. However, trade in this zone decreased 15.6 percent when compared with 2010.
Trade in Mersin Free Zone was up 20.9 percent registering a trade volume of $2.7 billion. The Mardin Free Zone made the lowest trade at $2.6 million last year.
