Top Russian general arrives in Ankara, meets Turkish counterpart Akar

Russian Chief of General Staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov on Sept. 15 met with Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar in Ankara, in a visit which signaled a new term of cooperation between the two countries as they worked to mend strained ties gradually.The two top generals were expected to discuss issues involving Syria and military cooperation. Political and economic tensions between the two countries recently softened with a lifting of sanctions and increased dialogue toward ending the Syrian civil war.
