ANKARA - Anatolia News Agency
TOKİ has built 560,000 residences as of November the president of the state-run housing development agency said yesterday.

The 500,000-residence threshold was passed in June and now TOKİ is focusing on a new target set by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to build 1 million residences by 2023. This was one of the goals announced by the government to achieve by the centennial founding of the republic.

TOKİ provides for 10 percent of housing production in Turkey, Ahmet Hakkı Karabel said. “The agency invests in areas where the private sector does not, with an approach to maintain equal service [for the people].”

Public housing makes up some 85 percent of the residences that TOKİ has built for low and medium-revenue households, he added.
