Three PKK militants ‘neutralized’ in Turkey’s southeast
HAKKARİ
Three illegal PKK militants were neutralized by the Turkish Armed Forces in the southeastern province of Hakkari on Sept. 3.
Security sources told state-run Anadolu Agency that the three PKK militants were spotted by an armed drone as they tried to plant a roadside bomb.
The militants were neutralized by an armored Cobra vehicle and an armed drone.
Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply the militants in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.
Separately, a PKK suspect, identified only as Cüneyt K., was apprehended in the northwestern province of Edirne.
The suspect was claimed to be a senior France-based PKK operative.
He was detained in a joint operation by counterterrorism police and Turkish intelligence at a border gate on the Turkish-Greek frontier.
