Teacher arrested for harassing 10-year-old student in Turkey’s west

Identified as İ.K., the 51-year-old male elementary school teacher, who is married with three children, was arrested by a local court in Balıkesir for harassing his 10-year-old fourth grade student. 

The family of the student filed a complaint about İ.K. to the Directorate of National Education after they learned of his special interest in their daughter. The teacher was suspended from his duty for two months and appointed to Dursunbey, another district of Balıkesir, following an investigation launched into the incident. 

Allegedly, while İ.K. was at his new post, he called the student’s father, saying he had dreamt that he had married the 10-year-old girl and adding that he wanted to come to Balıkesir to get her. 

The teacher was later detained in Balıkesir, where he came upon the invitation of the girl’s father, who had informed the police beforehand.
